Game Changing Advantages of CarbonSweep’s™ Renewable Diesel Biorefinery
- Our use of MSW as our core feedstock to create renewable diesel fuel addresses several critical global issues:
- too much waste with too few places to put it
- methane and carbon dioxide emissions from landfills contributing to climate disruption
- the transportation sector’s dependence upon carbon-emitting fossil fuels
A CarbonSweep renewable diesel biorefinery is capable of achieving net carbon reductions at a scale that is unprecedented in the renewable energy industry. Net Carbon Intensity is a basic metric used to assess the carbon-producing impact of any new facility. Negative Carbon Intensity means that more carbon is being removed than produced during the lifecycle of a CarbonSweep biorefinery, thus reducing the existing inventory of carbon in the Earth’s atmosphere.
We achieve Negative Carbon Intensity by avoidance, repurposing and replacement:
- We avoid methane and carbon dioxide emissions by reducing the amount of MSW going into the ground
- We repurpose the MSW that would otherwise emit carbon by transforming it into renewable diesel fuel
- We replace fossil-derived diesel fuel with clean renewable diesel fuel
According to our internal calculations:
- Replacing one gallon of fossil-derived diesel fuel with one gallon of our low carbon renewable diesel fuel is equivalent to avoiding the consumption of 2.5 gallons of fossil-derived diesel fuel
- Our invested cost per unit of carbon reduction is half that of a solar or wind project
- The amount of land we require for our facility is 1/56 of the 1413 acres required for a solar project with equivalent carbon reduction benefits
